How to punish the corrupt?

Deputies propose to toughen penalties Corruption is one of the evils that most affect our country and that generate indignation among the citizens. Therefore, it is necessary that the laws are stricter and effective to sanction public servants who abuse their position and commit illegal acts. That is the proposal presented by deputy Karola Macías, president of the Public Servants Commission of the Congress of Aguascalientes.

The initiative seeks to amend the Penal Code of the State so that the crime of Abusive Exercise of Functions is considered as serious, in accordance with what the Federal Constitution establishes. This means that those responsible could face preventive detention and a penalty ranging from 2 to 12 years in prison.

Deputy Macías explained that with this reform she seeks to close the way to corruption and create a specific crime to punish white-collar criminals and those who serve power for their own interests. In addition, she said that it is about privileging honesty as a maximum principle when performing a public office.

The initiative was approved by the Public Servants Commission and was referred to the Political Coordination Board for its corresponding legislative process. It is expected that it will soon be discussed and voted on in the plenary of Congress.

In addition to this proposal, the Public Servants Commission also approved its semi-annual activity report, in which it highlighted that it held six ordinary sessions and issued seven opinions on various issues.

As you can see, the deputies of Aguascalientes are working to combat corruption and strengthen the rule of law. If you want to know more about their work, you can consult their report on the website of the State Congress.
