GOB AGS: Migrantes: seres humanos en busca de una vida mejor

En estos días hemos visto pasar por nuestro territorio a miles de personas que huyen de la violencia, la pobreza, el hambre y los desastres naturales en sus países de origen. Son los migrantes, seres humanos que buscan una vida mejor para ellos y sus familias. ¿Qué hacemos nosotros ante esta realidad? ¿Los miramos con indiferencia, con rechazo, con miedo? ¿O los acogemos con solidaridad, con generosidad, con empatía?

La empatía es la capacidad de ponernos en el lugar del otro, de comprender sus sentimientos, sus necesidades, sus motivaciones. Es un valor que nos hace más humanos y que nos permite construir puentes entre los pueblos. La empatía nos ayuda a reconocer que los migrantes son sujetos de derechos, sin importar su origen, nacionalidad o etnia. La empatía nos impulsa a actuar con responsabilidad y humanidad ante el sufrimiento ajeno.

Por eso me alegra saber que la gobernadora de Aguascalientes, Tere Jiménez, ha instruido al Sistema DIF Estatal para que emprenda acciones humanitarias a favor de las caravanas de migrantes que transitan por nuestro estado. El DIF Estatal ha iniciado una campaña de recolección de apoyo a los migrantes, invitando a la población a donar alimentos no perecederos, agua embotellada, productos de higiene personal, ropa y calzado. Además, ha entregado diversos apoyos como cobijas y alimentos, y ha brindado atención médica con el apoyo de la Cruz Roja Mexicana.

Esta es una muestra de que en Aguascalientes hay gente solidaria y generosa, que se preocupa por el bienestar de los migrantes y que respeta sus derechos. Pero no es suficiente. Necesitamos más acciones como estas, tanto del gobierno como de la sociedad civil. Necesitamos cambiar la narrativa negativa y discriminatoria que se ha generado sobre los migrantes, y difundir mensajes positivos y esperanzadores. Necesitamos aprender unos de otros y reconocer nuestra humanidad compartida.

Los migrantes no son un problema, son una oportunidad. Una oportunidad para enriquecernos culturalmente, para fortalecer nuestra democracia, para impulsar nuestro desarrollo. Una oportunidad para demostrar que somos un país acogedor, tolerante y diverso. Una oportunidad para ejercer nuestra ciudadanía global y nuestra responsabilidad social.

No dejemos pasar esta oportunidad. No seamos indiferentes al dolor de los que han tenido que dejar su casa. No seamos cómplices de las violaciones a sus derechos humanos. Seamos empáticos con los migrantes. Seamos parte de la solución.

Migrants: human beings in search of a better life

These days we have seen thousands of people pass through our territory who flee from violence, poverty, hunger and natural disasters in their countries of origin. They are migrants, human beings who seek a better life for themselves and their families. What do we do in the face of this reality? Do we look at them with indifference, with rejection, with fear? Or do we welcome them with solidarity, with generosity, with empathy?

Empathy is the ability to put ourselves in the place of the other, to understand their feelings, their needs, their motivations. It is a value that makes us more human and that allows us to build bridges between peoples. Empathy helps us to recognize that migrants are subjects of rights, regardless of their origin, nationality or ethnicity. Empathy drives us to act with responsibility and humanity in the face of the suffering of others.

That is why I am glad to know that the governor of Aguascalientes, Tere Jiménez, has instructed the State DIF System to undertake humanitarian actions in favor of the migrant caravans that transit through our state. The State DIF has started a collection campaign to support migrants, inviting the population to donate non-perishable food, bottled water, personal hygiene products, clothing and footwear. In addition, it has delivered various supports such as blankets and food, and has provided medical attention with the support of the Mexican Red Cross.

This is a sign that in Aguascalientes there are people who are solidary and generous, who care about the well-being of migrants and who respect their rights. But it is not enough. We need more actions like these, both from the government and from civil society. We need to change the negative and discriminatory narrative that has been generated about migrants, and spread positive and hopeful messages. We need to learn from each other and recognize our shared humanity.

Migrants are not a problem, they are an opportunity. An opportunity to enrich ourselves culturally, to strengthen our democracy, to boost our development. An opportunity to show that we are a welcoming, tolerant and diverse country. An opportunity to exercise our global citizenship and our social responsibility.

Let’s not miss this opportunity. Let’s not be indifferent to the pain of those who have had to leave their home. Let’s not be accomplices of the violations of their human rights. Let’s be empathetic with migrants. Let’s be part of the solution.
